Our Inspiration

Our time in the trenches has shown us that a successful supply chain strategy empowers users to create and execute shipments using cost-saving methodologies on a daily basis. The key to empowerment is universal access to a centralized information source in real time. The designers of MercuryGate's Transportation Management Suite (TMS) come from a logistics background – they started their careers on warehouse floors. They were often "victims" of ill-advised, mandated technology decisions that decreased efficiency and increased cost. Typically, other make-shift processes were pieced together. And benefits, if any, were never realized.

MercuryGate Solution Emerges From the Trenches

MercuryGate's founders complemented their hands-on logistics experience by becoming experts on applicable technology and business process controls. They funneled this expertise into a solution for a large electronics company with extremely complex, high volume transportation needs. The resulting system was highly successful and started saving the company millions of dollars as soon as it was implemented. This proven solution continues to be a cornerstone of MercuryGate's overall distribution process.

The team continually enhanced the core technology with added functionality. They honed their expertise by consulting with other companies, domestic and international, many who were large corporate enterprises, about their transportation management needs and requirements. While developing leading edge alternatives that blended both technology and process into successful strategies and solutions, the MercuryGate team continued to gain more valuable experience by working closely with representatives from all areas of the logistics market, from executives to the shipping dock. These consulting engagements brought the team face to face with broad representation from all the involved parties faced with transportation management concerns –prominent shippers, major carriers, and complex logistics companies across many industries. The 3PL Solutions, Brokerage Solutions, and Shipper Solutions available today are the culmination of more that two decades of practical industry experience.

The Future

While technology and the Internet are often seen as the savior of logistics problems, they alone cannot create a more efficient shipping process. Simple data sharing in common formats is an important step forward, but it does not necessarily change the inefficient processes that created it or the resulting downstream errors.
